Branding/web design
Frøya Begravelsesbyrå
2023
Recently I took on the task to rebrand the identitly for my fathers business, a small funeral agency he runs in my home town. The new identity draws significant inspiration from the fact that our business is situated in a small island community where the sea plays a fundamental role in all aspects of life — economically, culturally, and historically.
As it was difficult to find the icons I needed for this theme, I was happy to take on the challenge of designing a new set of icons to be used on the website.
In Christian symbolism, the ship frequently represents the congregation and the church, symbolizing the Holy Church journeying towards its celestial destination. Additionally, it's a longstanding tradition among sailors to hang model ships in churches as an expression of gratitude to God for rescue from perilous situations at sea. This tradition is widespread in Norwegian churches, where many have model ships suspended from their ceilings.
An excerpt from the song Sjømannsvisa (The Sailor's Song) written by the folk singer and artist Odd Børretzen serves as both inspiration for the identity and an integral component of the marketing strategy.
The logo is intended to be neutral about religion and outlook on life.
